Hi all, first post on here and i wish it was under different circumstances![]()
I've just bought a refurbished HP Pavillion DV9500 (serial CNF7432LGN) and for the first week it was fine but 2 days ago i went to start it up and it just booted straight into the bios and makes a continuous beeping noise.
The first time it happened i ran the diagnostic in the bios and all tests were ok, i rebooted and it started up ok. Later that day i had the same problem again this time it wont boot at all.
I've contacted dabs, the place i bought it from and they will issue an RMA but i'm wondering if it can be fixed by HP under warranty as i bought it as refurbished. I would like it fixed really as it seems a really good laptop and it was the last one dabs had in stock and for what i paid for it i cant get a replacement with anywhere near the same spec.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
thanks
matt

Have you checked in any manuals you got to see what a continuous beeping noise means?
EDIT: Welcome to the forums BTW -
If it is continuously beeping and it won't boot, it doesn't seem likely that it is a problem that you can fix.
It could possible be the RAM. To test this, take out one stick of RAM and see if you have the problem, if the problem persists, put that stick back in and take out the other one. If the problem goes away when you take one of the sticks of RAM out, then you know it is a problem with the RAM. If that's the case, you can either continue with the RMA process from the place you bought it from, or you can purchase more RAM for your machine.
Any other problem that would cause the beeping will be too expensive to fix on your own and you are better off getting it fixed from the place you bought it from, or returning it and getting your money back. Also, if you haven't done this already, buy a warranty for the laptop, otherwise you'll get screwed. -
Well it seems to be getting worse, it just hangs at the HP splash screen for ages. I tried switching the memory about but it made no difference. I think i'm going to have to return it, i'll leave it a little while to see if HP reply to the email i sent them about it, if not its back to dabs with it.

Probably wisest. As Envision said, any other problem wouldn't be economical for you to fix, especially if it's covered by warantee. I suppose these things happen - sorry!

Update
Got in touch with HP technical support and they seem to think its a motherboard problem and are going to fix it under warranty picking it up tomorrow morning.
I have to add that the guy i spoke to was great, very helpful which makes a nice change. -
