I recently upgraded my dv9640us from 2GB up to 4GB of Kingston Value Select PC-5300 667Mhz RAM. In the bios all 4GB is detected (4096MB). When I am still running the 32-bit version of Vista Home Premium. When I go to the help and support from the start menu > system information > Memory: It detects 2gb of ram in each memory bank; 3GB allocated to the system and 1GB allocated to the video card. All that said here is the issue:

When I had 2GB RAM my memory operation per second performance score was 4.6, and desktop performance for aero was 4.8. Now the video is up to 5.9, but the memory score is 2.7!!! What gives? I ran the windows experience index program several times, but it says the same thing. Now I realize that the microsoft program is crap and that you can change the index file to say whatever score you want, but why did the score drop that low? Any ideas...

p.s. I am including a link to the knowledgebase article on Vista x86 only supporting 3GB for any who want it:

Run memtest86+ on your new ram modules to check for errors first. www.memtest.org

Windows Experience Index (WEI) can be quite unaccurate, thats why no one uses it for benchmarking. I wouldnt trust the number it gives me.

Tell me this. Does your system run faster than before?

I will definately run memtest86 when I get home...I am working at Circuit City firedog...haha. Anyways I think the issue is going to be some weird issue with the 32 bit version of Vista. If you get a WEI of 4.8 with Ultimate 64 with the same ram its gotta be the 32 bit OS. I'll let you know how it tests. I also found on Microsoft's site that the ram can hold inaccurate values and that the xml file for the score should be deleted. I dunno, I'll try it. I might also try swapping one of the 2gb stick with a 1gb to see if the score goes back up for experimentation purposes.
