    Hey Guys,

Recently I noticed an interesting thing with my laptop. I have 2.53mhz, geforce 8600gs M, 4gb of ram, 17incher. I've installed Anno 1404 just yesterday and were running it at low details but if full resolution ( pretty smooth gameplay) and after about 20 minutes of play the temperature raised up to 91 degree celsius. The thing was so hot it was impossible to put my hand on it. Processor was still on a stable 60 degrees, so the fan didn't even bother kicking in.

I've played Crysis, Prototype and few other demanding games in the past, but none would make my baby that hot. Is that a sign of forecoming doom and death? Is it normal for the GPU to run that hot? What can I do?

I would reccomend replacing the thermal paste on the GPU and CPU and doing a copper heatsink mod to the chipset.

I'd invest in a laptop cooler!!! Or one of these USB fans I just ordered that I'm going to try out. It hooks on to the exhaust grill for the fan and pulls the hot air out.
I will post back after I get it for a review.

If it is normal, yes. Since the fan does not start obviously it gets hot. You can try modifying the fan policy, there should be software to do that.

If it will last long in this state, no. The 8*** series of mobile GPUs are all defective by design, and if you let them overheat they will die in a year tops. If you can't make the fan kick in earlier, you should invest in a notebook cooler like recommended above.

if your warranty hasnt expire i suggest you to extended asap. you do not want to hassle with HP CSR about the defected cards as they dont care or its already too late.
I to had a laptop cooler. A cheap 10dollar one from Targus and all it did was delay.

Netkiller, how did your laptop from the signature die? Was it something unexpected or did you have problems before?

Just a quick update, it seems to be running cool, as long as I don't stress it too much... I'm running additional tests and will keep you updated.

Thanks for all your feedback guys
