As mentionned above I currently have dv9910ca it just came back (today) having it's system board and ram changed and the hard drive reimaged (all under warranty). Now when ever the number lock key is on the J key equals 1, the K key equals 2, the L key equals 3, M equals 0, U equals 4 and more. Called tech support tried the Function and Number Lock key together nothing happened. Tried reinstalling the key board drivers problem still there. Tried a static discharge problem remained. I am waiting for another box to send back the computer.
Any ideas as to what the problem is?

Try doing a complete system recovery, setting it back to the factory settings. Maybe that will fix it. You can do it with either recovery disks or the recovery partition on your hard drive.
I have no idea what the problem may be, but this just might work -
A system recovery was already performed by HP before sending the computer back to me.
-
Well the box arrived and notebook is shipped, cann't wait to see what is wrong. One more repair and it will be another replacement.
-
Update: They finished repairing the computer already (sameday wow!) and are shipping it back. They had to replace the keyboard. Hopefully everything is working this time.

So I checked the tracking and UPS messed up and forgot to take if off the plane at the dispatch center in my Province and my computer is now 2 provinces away.
-
So it looks like UPS Tracking thought the computer was two provinces away when it was actually here. Finally got delivered however the problem still exists.

Try to make a phone call again, explaining politely that you have three (3) times repair job but the problem remains, ask them is there any changes to get a complete new system? There is a possibility they might send you a new dv7z unit!

It seems like they somehow loaded the wrong BIOS in your laptop... As that is the default behaviour for a laptop with a reduced size keyboard (ie: no dedicated numpad). My DV5 is like that.
However i see it more being a software issue. Have you tried reinstalling Windows yourself? That would be the first thing i'd do. Besides, HP's Vista Home install is screwed up anyway, it causes sound glitches and video lag. -
So I got the computer back and it was doing the same thing with the keyboard and this time the right hinge on the laptop was really loose. Called my case manager and am getting a new replacement laptop. They are exchanging my DV9910CA with a HDX X18 1180ca.

Congratulation with the new HDX, wish I have the same case as yours
-
This will be my second replacement PC, the 9910 is a replacement from last year.
-
Heh, warranty FTW. I don't have one, but again, i am able to fix them myself. I still recommend you to do a clean Windows installation. See here.

The computer is out of my hands and as of Friday at the HP return center. Now the waiting begins for them to send the new computer.
I have to say had a really good experience this time around with my case manager. -
The computer will be here today, cann't wait to check it out!
