Hi all (first post)
I just got a new HP Pavillion DV9917CL. It had Vista Home Premium on it from the store. My employer bought me a copy of Vista Ultimate 64bit after confirming compatibility with this laptop on HP's site. I downloaded all the drivers from HP. The only driver I did not see at the time was for the WIRED ethernet. I assumed this was because Vista would recognize it and install drivers as part of the chipset installation. So I began the install of Ultimate 64bit. Everything went smoothly (clean install, NOT upgrade). However, the install did not recognize my wired ethernet port. I was able to connect wirelessly, so I tried searching for the driver from within the driver update applet - no joy. HP update - no joy. In my device manager, there are 3 entries under "Other devices": "CoProcessor", "Ethernet Controller", and "SM Bus Controller" I called HP support, but all that did was frustrate me further (MUCH further)
Any help appreciated - I'm fairly technical but this is drive me CRAZY! Thanks.
P.S - I also had LOTS of trouble getting the drivers installed for my wireless (Atheros AR5007). Windows would tell me I was connected but with only local access. Eventually that seems to work itself out, but I did wonder whether it was related.

Welcome to NBR
Do you know who manufactured your ethernet port? Check if its a marvel yukon ethernet card. HP only used 2 different manufacturers if i remember correctly.
Try using drivers from the other dv9000 models -
I just installed Vista Ultimate x64 on my DV9917CL. I wasted a couple hours on the web looking for these and know exactly what you're talking about. You will not find them on the HP website. The fix is to go to the NVIDIA website and download the NForce drivers for your motherboard. It will have the drivers for your 10/100 integrated ethernet jack, the coprocessor, and SM Bus Controller.
