Good morning, when I close the dvd tray a few seconds later it opens back up. This happens when empty, blank cd or with written cd.

    Any suggestions.

Thanks and have a good day.

Does it give you a message on the Computer? Does it do this same thing with software CDs like Windows or any other software?

no message, but I just tried a software cd and it stayed closed. I have had this laptop for about 15 mos and just started had this problem this week.

Any reason it now won't stay closed empty or with a written cd as before.

Usually when you write a CD via Windows, when the CD Completes or if it doesn't recognize the CD format it will automatically Eject the disc. From this it sounds like Windows doesn't recognize the format of the CDs. Sounds like it could be a problem with the OS.

I wouldn't doubt it was the OS, Vista is the worse OS I have ever worked with. I can write cds with my window xp pro desk top and my apple desktop has no problem reading it. However, my apple can't read any cd data disks that I write with the HP vista machine.

After sending my DV 9207 us to HP to have lid replace, my cd tray opens by itself repeatedly, as much as 20 times an hour when using laptop. Did this only a couple of times before lid replacement so I don't think that is really related.
Opens by itself frequently also when I'm moving laptop and putting some pressure on the underside of laptop.
However, it frequently will not open when I depress to button to open it. have to put paperclip in to open.

Not sure what the OP's problem is -- I suspect Vista -- but your machine has a bad switch inside the drive. The fix is to replace the drive, or try the fix described here.
My DV9000 CTO had the same issue, but I persuaded HP to fix it while they were replacing its (second) failed system board.
