OK, I am working on a customers R3240US and heres what is happening:
You can record a dvd with nero just fine. Cd as well. You can watch prerecorded dvds also. But if you got to My Computer and look at the drive, it looks as if no cd or dvd is in there. However, if you take the disc to another computer, you can see everything. I have never had this one happen to me.
    Any suggestions????
    Thanks in advance.

Have a look at this KB - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/886568/en-us

This is reasonable common. Some media/cd/dvd programs alter the cd/dvd drive parameters in the registry causing this problem.

You didn't say whether it's xp or vista, but it's been known to affect both. So you'll need to locate the upperfilters and lowerfilters keys in the registry and delete them. Remove the drive from device manager and reboot.
