Am thinking of buying HP dv800t and am wondering if Quickplay is necessary to have normal DVD and or TV operations inside of Windows XP? In other words, if I decide to reinstall XP Pro and delete the quickplay partition, will I have any problems operating the DVD writer normally inside of Windows? Also, if I get the TV tuner, could I ioperate that inside Windows without problem although not installing QuickPlay? Thanks for your help.

Its not necessary. You can use any software to play, burn DVDs and use a TV tuner as well. You can still continue to use Quickplay even if you delete the partition. The partition is only useful for the directplay feature.

What is DirectPlay feature? And, I am talking about a clean reinstall of XP and not just adding removing programs from the original install. Are you saying I can install the QuickPlay from the Swsetup folder that I copy to DVD and use Quickplay without the Paritition? Thanks again.

There are 2 separate folders in the SWsetup for Quickplay, one is just labeled as 'QP'(or something like that) and then the other is 'QPDP' for the directplay feature. Directplay is the feature which allows you to open Quickplay without booting into Windows. This feature will not work after reinstallation. But you can still continue to use Quickplay within Windows, which is installed by the first folder.

I am currenly using the above setup and it works perfectly fine.

Thanks for clarification. I understand now what you are saying and I will follow that setup you have if I should purchase the laptop. Thanks.
