Hi all,
My HP Notebook (in sig) seems to have a "grainy" dvd quality, whether it's on my external lcd or my notebook lcd. I am using VLC at the moment. I notice HP talks about quickplay. Do i need this or is VLC just as good?
If I do need quickplay is there anyway to get it without ordering a cd from HP?
Thnx

whts VLC?
i dont face any such problems....u might want to change your decoder software -
VLC is http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/win/27193 kind of a jack of all trades master of none video/dvd player
also where would i find this decoder software u speak of? -
try google.......intervideo has it so does nvidia.... just type dvd decoder software in google.......there are a tonne of applications... you usually have to pay for thme but if your smart you can get them for free.
you dont really need vlc unless you like using it. once you get the codecs off the site you can play files on windows media player without any problem. -
any idea where i might acquire hp's quickplay for my dvd drive?

Your system didn't come with Quickplay installed? If you had Quickplay 1.x you should have a CD that shipped with your system. If you had 2.0 then you'll have to either get it from HP or download it from the thread over at notebookforum.com
VLC isn't exactly the best when it comes to DVD playback. For image quality, nVidia's PureVideo decoder is the absolute best. But it limits you to WMP or Media Center. For best all around software and quite close to PureVideo quality, WinDVD 7 is great too.
VLC is a good jack of all trades. It plays H.264 beautifully. But it's MPEG-2 (DVD) decoder is severely lacking.
