I have played a few DVDs lately and they skip or stop for a second and then start playing again. I know it's not the disc because I've tried several DVDs with the same skipping. I tried to clean the lens with a lens cleaning CD. I even tried to reseat the DVD drive to no avail. So far this is the second problem I've had w/ my DVD drive. The first one resolved its self. I haven't had any trouble w/ CDs yet, just DVDs.

I have had that happen to me (I have a dv1000).

I find that I only get skipping when I'm running the laptop on battery power. When it's plugged into an outlet, I don't have problems with skipping.

Other than that, I don't know what it could be.

I usually have it plugged in when watching DVDs. It doesn't affect CD burning or listening to audio CDs, I haven't tried burning a DVD since it started doing this. I'm not sure if it just has something to do w/ watching DVDs or any DVD thing in general. It will do this in both intervideo winDVD and windows media player. I have yet to try it in quickplay yet. For all I know it may have something to do w/ windows rather than the hardware. As long as it only does it w/ watching DVDs it's more of an annoyance that can be tolerated, but i'd still like to figure it out.

It will be helpful if you can provide which DVD drive you have in your laptop. There are at least 4 different ones used in DV4000.

The drive I have is the DVD-r/rw cd-r/rw combo drive (no lightscribe). I think it's a Microsoft problem or something b/c I tried a DVD in quickplay and it didn't skip thoughout a 30 min (or so) older TV show that we got on DVD. I don't think it's a hardware problem. I did notice it does skip on an audio CD, I just hadn't listened to enough of one to have it skip from last time I posted.
