Can anyone comment on the DVDRW that you can get for the 7000 or 5000 laptops.
    Thanks

So what your saying is that it will burn the dvd's and they will play in it's own drive but just might not be compatable with some DVD players?? So you recommend not getting one installed.
    Correct?

    Thanks for all your help

Any DVD burner can burn DVDs. However; with blank DVD media there are two main formats onto which you burn that DVD. + and -. The main difference is that certain DVD players can only play one or the other format. So because HP is stupid and only allows you to burn + format discs there are a lot of set top DVD players that can't play the DVDs burnt on an HP. They are a part of the DVD+ consortium so they refuse to have a - burner even though that is the major format and most readily read as well. Sony is also a major player in this consortium BUT they have dual format burners as they realize the needs of their customers. I love HP but it is simply ridiculous to make people burn one type of DVD (and one that isn't even the majority leader!). In fact, the drives on their laptops ARE dual format capable (they are LG or Liteon I believe) but they use specific firmware to make it + only. Customer oriented? I think not.
