Hi, my envy has been sporadically shutting off over the past few days. Once it happened when I tried plugging in my hdmi adapter. Another time, I simply unplugged the power chord and the computer powered off. And a few other times, I would return after closing the lid and it would be off.

Today, I could not power it on after closing the lid (note: I never shut it down). I plugged it in to no avail. I pulled out the battery and put it back in and it began to power up, but when I set the laptop down on the table it shut off. Now I can't power it up and I don't know what to do. My warranty is expired and I've got few options.

Anybody know what could explain this? The laptop is in great condition and has never been dropped or anything. Please advise.

Maybe your AC adapter is broken. are you using the factory power brick?

You might want to try buying a new universal power adapter and see if you have the same problem.

I had a similar problem using a third party power brick where it would work most of the time except when the battery was completely drained, in which case I had to switch back to the factory power brick

A little update, I got my laptop up and running again. I kept on pulling the battery and putting it back into place, then I would try to power it on. On my 30 millionth time doing this, the laptop powered up. I don't believe it's a problem with the power chord because each time the system has crashed, I've rebooted to find out that the battery was not in fact dead.

I tend to believe that there is some issue with the battery or the battery connection.

It is also possible that your system board has some static electricity flowing in the circuitry. that happened to me twice on my Envy 15 and what you might have done was discharged that excess static by dislodging the battery and then power out the static by pressing the power button for 30 seconds.

Glad it worked for you though! :D
