This laptop is only about a month old and its got a dead pixel right in the middle of the screen.. I can see it in every color except black and red, its really annoying

as for a high pitch sound at idle.. mine does it too..

How many dead pixels does it take for compaq to honor the warranty?

Depends on for where you bought it? Retailer will replace it straight away. HP-Store - you will need to ring them and to tell about the problem...But noise is a common problem so you can easily add it to your dead pixel story and they must replace it.

First download and run Dead Pixel Buddy:

check and make sure if you have any more dead ones.

    Just googled:
    Just call Compaq and see.

I had the same problem and after like 10 minutes of posting and snooping around I had people post the "solution" to the problem. You can either install that program and under MANAGEMENT > check 'Run HLT command when OS is idle' OR for some others they find that keeping the USB root hubs from being disabled in the device manager work to get rid of the noise. I tried both and RMClock worked for me. Give it a shot.

I saw it in the sony forum. They have a different program that some else suggest to use. And someone else with a dead pixel said rubbing it will get it to go away. Give it a shot, maybe that will help.
