I don't know if the correct term is hot pixel, but my LCD has one white pixel near the very bottom center and another one at the middle 1/3 of the way from the left. They are noticeable against a black background such as the BIOS screen. So I called the 888 number, and the CSR told me they'd give me $100 credit if I keep it. I thought about replacing it instead, but I'm afraid I'd just get another one with more dead pixels. Should I keep it or replace it?

can you even replace it?
what brand?
did you get a dead pixel warranty? if not then most places won't let you return it unless theres are maybe 5+ (most are 8+) dead pixels -
Keep asking for a replacement until you're satisfied.
-
Did they allow you to replace it with only 2 dead pixel. Usually they won't replace it

try running one of them programs that helps fix the dead pixel.i had that problem with a external monitor, but for some reason it fixed itself after abit.

The one at the bottom center is a single pixel, but the other one is bigger and consists of three or four pixels bunched together. I don't know whether it's still considered a single pixel, though.

I'm on my second HP laptop since Dec. 21. The first one had a faulty DVD drive and this one is going to go back because I opened it up, dead pixel and a black line on the screen near it that looks like it's missing some backlight. Don't know if that's possible but it's like a rain cloud in that one part of the screen.
The screen on the first laptop was fine. The DVD drive on this one is fine. Too bad I couldn't combine the two! Anyway, I'm writing from my ZX5280 that has never had a dead pixel problem so if you can get it replaced, you might as well. I plan on it. Don't know how long you've had yours but if it's brand new there's definitely no reason to have trouble right out of the box. -

return it asap if you are under 21 days or else you may be out of luck. Hp is no question return within the short window. Or take the money and be happy.

HP doesn't allow me to return it (not in the US), but they usually offer to replace the screen. However, I just hate the fact that a new laptop has to be pried open and have the screen replaced. Better than staring at dead pixels all the time I guess.

As has been said, if you are within your 21 days, return it and get another one. It's the only way to push them to make better systems in the future. If they give out low quality systems, and people just take them without complaint, there is no reason for them to improve.

Try massaging it for a few minutes a day with your finger over the next couple of days. Don't press really hard (don't want to crack the glass). This worked for me on a work laptop. Dunno why this works, but you can google it. I'm not making it up.

This might work too, but I have no idea...never tried it myself. It's software that supposedly finds dead pixels and quickly cycles through colors trying to get them to work.
