I think you're wasting money on the 3 year warranty, the computer really isn't worth that kind of investment. You could do better through your insurance company. Also, adding RAM through someone like www.crucial.com is going to be more cost effective. Lastly, unless you know you need Pro, that's $30 you can save.

I thought the same thing about service plans until I bought my last laptop. Luckily I spent the extra dough for it- I've had to have the battery and motherboard replaced once and the lcd TWICE. Talk about a lemon... Tell me more about the plan through the insurance company though.

Try calling HP and ordering via the phone, since you can bargain with the reps & if you are good at it you can get better deal than ordering online. The sales reps have certain amount of discounts they can give at their discretion. So if you are lucky & good at bargaining, you can get some of those upgrades/copouns or some extra stuff for free.

I agree with Brian get the minimum RAM & then upgrade yourself, it is always the most cost effective solution.

The reps are in power selling mode- they know they are going to sell them whether they give me discounts or not today. Let me know if you have any good tactics...

Astro, call your insurance company and get them to give you a quote for the accidental damage. There are a few threads that are older on this topic, you might try searching to dig up more info.
