listen HP -- release a 40% coupon FAST so i can order the following beast with the following lovely specs:

    reasons i want this:

    1) my current dv7t (with the t9600 proc) + 4gb ram runs the HP install of vista (complete with bloatware) exceptionally well! i always wanted to do a clean install but never got around to it. i did remove some hp crapware but the machine still runs sooo impressively fast. getting a machine with the specs above would absolutey eat up widows 7 premium.

    2) i dig the display on my current dv7t but fell in love with the led backlit display on my gf's dv4t. now that hp has the dv7t with the led display available, I MUST HAVE IT.

    3) with the unbelievable speed and performance i've gotten with my t9600 proc, im really reluctant to move onto the quad procs.... besides, they're still new and expensive. but spending the $600 on the t9900 proc will be worth it, to me anyway, since i know the capability of the t9600. im excluding quad core procs until they're faster and cheaper.

anyway, yeah, hp, srsly, gimme the coupon NOW!

    thanks.

why not grab the dv8t for around $1100? it's got a nice WUXGA screen instead and i7 CPU

i really havent looked at the specs of the quad procs.... but how much faster (if any) would the quad core procs (the 1.6 or the 1.7ghz model) be compared to the t9900 processor? i really dig how my current t9600 has been running so i wanted to stick with something familiar.

plus, with the specs above, even if hp has only a 30% off coupon, the machine in my original post would come out to about $1200 - which isn't bad for something that ... it has the highest cpu avail from hp, 4gb ram (which is wayyyy enough for me) 1tb drives and 1gb video card....

as for the higher resolution screen - i dont really watch blue ray anything... i usually watch dvds on my laptop and have it outputted to my 50" plasma tv which has been a great solution for me for the past couple of years.... while the higher res would be nice, it's not a huge point for me.

i dont spend a lot of money but on things i like, i prefer overkilll... but i'll only but something this insane if i get a coupon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 :D

Even the lowest end new i7 processor would be much faster than any C2D in any CPU intensive program that can utilize all the cores and threads. Even if the program doesn't utilize all the cores and threads, then the i7 can overclock (via Turbo Boost) to around 3.0GHz (depending on model) and still beat the T9900...

really............? you've convinced me.... im gonna do my homework on the quad core procs. but since hp only gives you 2 options for quad core procs, im gonna hold off until they have like 5 options like they do now with the C2D's.

There are currently only 3 mobile i7 processors on the market. These will be the most powerful CPUs for the next 6 months at least.

Nope. The Q9000's are benchmarked at 3,000 stock. The i7's are benchmarked at 3,300 stock. The Q9000 can OC to 2.4ish. I imagine that'd make up the difference and then some. These benchmarks are taken from two hundred different computers as well...

    http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_lookup.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i7+720QM+@+1.60GHz

The i7 in turbo boost loses cores. at 2.8 on the 720QM (The only cost effective version out) is is only using one core. So your 3.4ghz dual would beat that out. At two cores, it is at 2.4ghz. Again, a gigahert more makes up the difference imo. In quad apps it will beat out your 3.4ghz though. I did a LOT of researching when I bought my new computer, and my decision was a Penrynn when I could have gotten an i7 for only $100.00 more.

Isn't the Nvidia chip on the i7s much slower than the ATI 1gb option on the penryn D7t's?
