I currently own an FZ190 from Sony with a C2D 2.0 T7300 processor. My dad's laptop broke and he wants mine so I am looking into this HP laptop.

    I have concerns...

Is the 2.1 GHZ model that is in stores comparable to my FZ190's CPU? I do CPU intensive stuff..I make music with software and it can be quiet a toll on CPU usage.

Also... that damn grainy screen is making the choice harder. i seen the tx2500 in store and didn't think it was that bad, but i dont know if its going to get on my nerves or not... especially when using microsoft word... all i'll see is grainy grey behind black text im trying to type... any opinions?

    thanks!

i think this would be a better question in tabletpcreview.com to get the most answers, that said, I really dont think a 2.1 ghz processor will hamper you much if at all. FYI, theres a $400 coupon code so why not use it to get the best specs u can at the moment. Check deals in tabletpcreview.com, I suggest buying ram after market and getting 4gb (even if u get vistax32 to keep it dual channel), I used to audio edit on an Athlon XP 2400+. My current notebook the e1705 with a T2300 coreduo @1.66 runs everything really well, both video & audio editing. The Tx2500z does come with a 2,4ghz turion x2 ultra, but due to shortages its no longer listed, but it will most likely be back. Is your computer bloated with crapware or not defragmented/optimized? The Turion X2 Ultra is a worse processor than the core2duo, but I can't understand why the turion X2 ultra or your core2duo would have any problem with audio editing software, unless you don't have ample ram or your program you use just plain sucks.

On the grainy screen issue: Someone removed the passive (touchscreen overlay) on the tx1000, its very similiar to the tx2500, couldn't the same be done with the tx2500? I mean I think u'd still have the active wacom digitizer. Do a search on tabletpcreview.com.

In CPU intensive tasks it will definitely be slower than the C2D T7300. The 2.1 Turion Ultra is comparable to a C2D at ~1.6 - 1.8GHz. However, the difference is not noticeable during everyday usage. The Turions do run a bit hotter especially so in the tx2500 given the space constraints. but I haven't experienced any overheating issues.

The screen is pretty grainy especially on white backgrounds. But the tradeoff for the grainy screen is that you gain the touch and pen enabled screen. If it didnt have the touch/pen then I would have called the screen as being poor but, unless you use the laptop to watch movies or use it in photo editing the screen is definitely usable indoors and outdoors too(as long as you dont have the sun or bright source of light falling right on the screen.

I would recommend the tx2500 if you are looking for a tablet, that's the number 1 functionality of the laptop. It is one of the cheapest convertible/tablet and offers good performance especially in the graphics at a lower price than comparable convertibles. The cpu offers decent performance but the C2D's are going to be faster & cooler. If the touch/pen enabled screens are not an important factor then there are better options out there with much better screens than the tx.

thanks miner. now that you mention the CPU issue, I am oging to have to pass on this. My program does not suck! I use tons of plugins which cause the CPU usage, not the program.

Miner, you say there are better options. Could direct me to a good small (I want at least 12-14 inch screen) that uses C2D and is QUALITY laptop? thanks!

Whats your budget? There are lots of option in that screen range. if you want a tablet/convertable, the Toshiba M700 might be a good option as well as the Fujitsu T4220(or the upcoming T5010). The Thinkpad X300 or if you are looking for something cheaper, the XPS M1330. HP should also be relaseaing the dv4t most likely next week, lenovo should be releasing new versions after the release of Montevine as well. So will other manufacturers. I would suggest narrowin down based on price or a certain spec, it would be hard to recommend one over the other in such a broad range.
