After much deliberation and research I've finally decided that I'm going to buy a dv1000, but before I do I have a few questions. I'm only going to be using it to: watch dvds, surf the web, power point & word documents, and burning dvds (minimal dv editing). My ?'s are:
    1) How long does the battery last when watching dvds using the quickplay feature?
    2) Is the 12 cell battery upgrade a good idea?
    3) I plan getting the 256 RAM and then putting in a 512 stick after I get it, would there be any problems in going that route?
    4) Is the faster hard-drive worth the $?
and finally 5) any other suggestions from dv1000 owners would be much appreciated. Thanx for your time[ :D]

1 I never ran an entire movie on quickplay. I was usu surfing and watching concurrently. Battery life 2.5 hrs
2 12 cell is a good idea (double life). I had a 6 cell but had to swap which kind of sucks. It does weight a pound heavier and protrudes from the bottom.
3 I don't see why not. Check out www.dv1000forums.com for some of those issues regarding upgrading.
    4) Yes, 5400 was fast. Espec since I would install programs using Virtual CD. It would take 15 seconds to install certain programs. I have read posts of upgrading to a 7200 RPM but there were issues relating to reinstalling quckplay so be careful.
    5) Get rid of the extra programs (Office Trial, Trial ware, Internet access programs, etc etc). www.sumdex.com for a notebook sleeve or the Vyper M by Booq. The Booq Powersleeve 15 is sweet for a deluxe sleeve.

Yes, the programs HP puts in there for you will only slow down your computer and going from 4200 rpm and 5400 rpm, you will see a noticable increase in performance, worth the extra cash. The ram upgrade shouldn't be too hard and I don't see any problems that could arise from it. Good luck with your purchase!
