Many ways, I have DV6000t and did that on the same day I got my laptop, of course after making the DVDs or CDs.
There are many free partitioning software out there but I used Partition Magic from Power Quest (Belongs to Symantec), if you want to be legit it will cost you, but I downloaded it from Torrent site for free and when ever I have partitioning job like the above I install and use and uninstall.

That software will help you delete the partition, make it unallocated, then added that empty space to your C drive, it will take like 2 minutes.

    Good luck.

P.S. if you search the forum you would have found many related articles.

More on deleting the Recovery Partition:

I got the Recovery DVD with my dv6000, and I bought some blank DVD discs (this is my first system with a DVD burner) and will make the recovery discs from HP's setup procedures. Am I missing anything here. I don't see how much better the partition would be than using the recovery disc if I have to reload. Are there other utilities on the partition? I have tons of music and picuture files (I do back them up), that I would love to keep on the HDD, so I think I need the space - almost 12GB on an 80GB drive. Appreciate any input.

PS: I have Partition Magic 8.0

Persian King, pushing others to priate software is not exactly allowed here, hehe :)
Chiaroscurist, you can use many free programs to delete the partition. You can use even WinXP's tool: Control Panel>AdminTools>Computer Management>Disk Management. Yet, I'm not sure if this is available with XP Home (I have to go home and find out :))

it's gotta be there, no? I figured XP Home didn't have most of the security and domain features, but you gotta be able to format a new HDD :)

Actually my bro has XP Home, we added another HDD and I'm certain we used the built in tools
