    Can't decide, need help!

I need a laptop and I've basically narrowed my choice down to the Dell 9300 and the HP zv6000.

I'm generally not going to be using the computer without its charger for too long, so battery life shouldn't be too much of a problem. I'll be using the laptop for browsing the web, using Office XP applications, watching dvds and maybe occassionally playing some games. Can you help me choose the right lap top? Here are the specs:

    Dell 9300:
    Intel® Pentium® M Processor 730 (1.60 GHz/2MB Cache/533MHz FSB)
17 inch UltraSharp™ Wide Screen UXGA Display with TrueLife™
    512mb or 1 GB memory?
    80 GB HD
    8x CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW)
    256MB NVIDA® GeForce™ Go 6800
    6-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery

    HP zv6000:
    AMD Athlon(TM) 64 3200+ (2.0GHz/512KB L2 Cache)
    15.4" WXGA BrightView Widescreen
    512mb or 1GB memory?
    128MB ATI RADEON(R) XPRESS 200M w/Hypermemory(TM)
60 GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive
    LightScribe 8x DVD+/-RW & CD-RW Combo Drive
    8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery

I understand that the HP has a faster processor that's also geared toward future applications and such, but I'm not quite sure if it'll be of use to me (Maybe when I burn dvds, play games, or become an engineer?). Whereas, the Dell 9300, has a more powerful GPU, etc...
    I don't know...

    Which one?!

if it's truly going to be a desktop replacement i'd go with the dell and get the larger screen and better GPU, I am biased toward the Pentium M as well and like that processor a lot, so that's another reason I'd go with Dell. Also, Dell has better overall customer support ranking (I know people complain a lot, but honest this is what all the consumer surveys have shown over the past year).

Still, both are nicely configured laptops there and neither is a bad decision.

What kind of games are you going to play? Basically you dont need to pay for an expensive GPU or mobility (Pent M) if those are you limiting factors. i think you should be very pleased with the zv6k. From what i see, it doesn't look like you want a desktop replacement and the zv6k will perform all of those functions exceptionally well (office xp, dvds [unless you want a bigger screen], and many games). they both sound really good, is cost a factor for you?

Thanks for all the input guys!

    One more question:
Assuming I'm going with the Dell 9300, I need to get the price up to 1999 to use the coupon so I'm going to need to upgrade a few things on top of the monitor and video card, so -- should I upgrade the processor from 1.6ghz to 1.86 ghz OR upgrade the hard drive from 40gb to 80gb and get a cd/dvd burner upgrade?

    Thanks for the help.

they are both great notebooks but if you want to be able to play all the games and have great battery life and a bigger screen go with the Dell you wont be disapointed

The right choice is the Inspirion 9300 with the nvidia 6800 video card with 256mb ,80gb harddrive,1gb ram,.I love to game and this is primo.Make sure you opt for the 17 inch with truelife ,because it`s like looking at a tv,rather than an LCD monitor screen that looks like a flat black finish. The most important thing is to watch techbargains.com for the $700.00off sale, which they run on weekends.I bought the said notebbok for $1421.00 on special with $700 off coupon through techbargains.scroll to the bottom of the page where it says dell, and search for a coupon, the best time is on weekends!
