After a year of being satisfied with my HP laptop I guess it's time to change companies and here's why...

I have a dv2138xx with the AMD/Broadcom combo and after over a year the wireless suddenly stopped working. I've tried every suggestions I could read and nothing worked. I've contacted HP and tried their suggestions and they didn't work either. I also bought replacement Broadcom cards on e-Bay and it worked once then died. After several e-mails to HP they stopped communicating with me. I thought they were concerned but they left me in the dark. HP is well aware of this widespread problem on other models too but ignores it's customers in making things right. HP is well aware that the culprit is the motherboard and I suspect they don't want to lose money to repair these laptops for free and instead giving it's customers the run around. Too bad they can't recall these defective products like automobiles. In the end people will lose faith in the company and HP will fall due to it's own ignorance. Word of mouth does work!

I left a comment on the HP's web site forum and they edited it by deleting my comment on how my lowly cheap Averatec that's 6 years old is still working and that though I thought that HP was a quality product the lowly Averatec beats it in functionality.

Anyways, I'm buying a Dell and avoiding HP for now unless they get their acts together. And all this because of a Broadcom wireless problem!

HP to Dell, at best you're moving laterally.

How about fujitsu? I can't really recommend Toshiba because of previous experience. My sis is on her 3rd fujitsu in 10 years and apparently she's still loving it...

I actually ordered the XPS m1530 with a blu-ray player. Also added the hidef 1680x1050 screen. I wished it had an option for an LED screen like the m1330. No more AMD/Broadcom combo for me. It's going to be Intel from now on. I may pay a little bit more but in the long run it's worth it. BTW I still use my dv2138xx but with a D-Link DWA-130 wireless N USB adapter. It looks awkward but it works! And if you ever plan to buy the D-Link DWA-643 wireless N express card adapter.. it doesn't work with HP with either XP or Vista, very disappointing.

Wow, you forked up some doe to get that blu-ray. You could have bought a PS3 and have some change in your pocket with the price you paid for the blu-ray on that 1530. hehehe, but impressed that you went all out for that m1530.

LOL, it's the same philosophy for both company, both will call back. Both HP and Dell tech support for business are much better than consumer tech support which is obviously due to the extra money business folks put into the bulk purchases. Now if they can make the consumer tech support side better that would be icing on the cake.

Well, all companies have QC issues and some unlucky guys or girls get bad models or some with bugs.

but remember those had problems with a company speak too loud about it and so it looks like some certain companies have issues but it is not like that.

there are many people with Toshiba or Acer that are very happy with theirs inc myself who are usually never say anything about it.

my mom had some minor service issue with her life book, so I dont think fujitsu has better customer service or care than HP or Toshiba.

IMHO, Acer has the best customer service.

    seriously consider the HP 6510b with T7500, 2gb , 160gb for 1100US.

if you want to get a similarly configured pavillion , you will need to pay 200 us more for remote or quick play something or light scribe feature.

also, the buiness note book line come with less bloat ware.

I already have a PS3. Funny thing is that the video died just almost before the one year warranty! I didn't have a receipt but I told them it was gifted. Sony replaced it for free.. including the box, shipping and handling. When my original Compaq's (v3000) video died after over a month of purchase, HP replaced it with this current model dv2138xx with a few extras with it.

The HP laptop works fine except for that dang wireless which irritates me. You know the feeling when something is not "complete". And HP perfectly knows well of the problem and won't do anything about it.

Hopefully Dell will be better as Notebook Review says it surpassed HP in sales and you tend to wonder why. I know Dell or any others are not immune to problems but if the problem is widespread why no make it "right".

I chose HP/Compaq originally because it had the loudest speaker volume I could find in a laptop.
