I ordered a new Dell 1520 laptop a couple weeks ago and sent it back yesterday for a full refund becuase it had many issues internally which I determined was a faulty motherboard and a couple spotty quality issues externally so today I ordered a new customized Hp DV6000t since I am officialy done with Dell after my last 2 pc orders from them had major quality issues.
Anyway here are the specs for the HP I customized and let me know what you think. Also I have a few questions at the bottom.

With the 6 cell extened battery I paid extra for should I get about the same run time as I did with my Dell that had a standard 6cell 56WHr battery which would run for 3-3.5 hours?
On my order status it says Order dropped to factory (Estimated to ship on September 3, 2007). What does order dropped to factory mean?
Will the system recovery dvd with windows vista premium also include all the drivers and everything else that could make the computer just like it was when I recieved it?
My first ever PC was a HP and I hope to get the years of trouble free service from this one as I did with my old HP. Also I am a fourth year college student with my major being Information Technology so I am for sure not new to the world of computers.

Order dropped to factory means your order was sent to the factory.
Yes, the Recovery DVD includes the Drivers.
I just got my dv6000t this week, I love it!
My order shipped 2 days earlier than estimated, and only took 2 days to deliver with the free shipping. -
No where near as good as the 1520 or Vostro 1500. Pre Santa Rosa, 7400 instead of 8400/8600, no DVD+RW
-
They were offering a free DVD-RW drive and 120GB Hard drive when I ordered mine. Now they just do a free 160GB drive. -
the DV6000t is a great laptop. You will enjoy it. -
I did the same thing as you, but I got the dv6500t.
I can't wait till' Monday. -
Actually the HP has a slightly faster proccesor, more ram, larger HD, and the Dell did not have a dvd+rw, also the hp has dedicated graphics, and the hp would have been cheaper if it had not been for taxes since Dell didn't charge me for any.
Don't get me wrong I not saying that Dells are bad but I am saying that 2 out of the 4 that I have orderd over the years have been junk which is not a good track record for me.
BTW the Dell was nice but when something don't work and you end up knowing more than the Tech Support does about trouble shooting its time to move on and give another company your money, now if Dells Total Customer Satisfaction Return Policy goes like it should I will feel alot better about the incedent.
BTW I have researched my DV6000t purchase and I think iwill be pleased with it. -
The other issue with the dv6000t is the non Direct x 10 video card that does not have a HDMI on it.. correct me if I am wrong.. but the web site list no HDMI on the GeForce(R) Go 7400. Without a DVD burner it will take several discs to make your Vista backup. I could not live without DVD+R RW. But if you don't write many DVD's, then this seems like a pretty good system. I think HP will sell you a DVD backup disc for around 20 dollars.. may be less. Its still dual core and will be fast.. You got a big HD which is a plus. If a DVD burner and HDMI are not something you need, then you probably got a great system and saved a few hundred bucks. But having a HDMI to me is is important. Even though I don't own a TV with HDMI yet, I will in the future. The dv6500t is much more future proof in this regard. If I were to purchase the dv6500t today, it looks like it would be much more expensive since some of the free upgrades are now gone as well as the 20% coupon. The DV6000t is probably considerably less expensive now. But when I bought my dv6500t I only paid 1088 dollars for a fairly loaded system with two years warranty. The DV6000t at a few hundred less would not have been a good value when I purchased my dv6500t. -
I did order the sytem recovery disks with my pc but wasnt sure what all was on the disc.

thevjm Did Dell give you any problems with their total satisfaction return policy, they sent ups to pick mine up the next day after I called and got a return authorization number and said my debit card would be refunded the full amount within 15-21 days but I will still be a little worried till I see my money and I was just wondering if everything went smoothly with the return.
BTW they said they would be monitoring the shipment and they have already emailed me with conformation saying that the package was in the hands of UPS, they also said they would be calling me twice during the return process which I figure will mainly consist of them apologizing for the ordeal and trying to get me to buy from them again.
I am glad to see I am not the only one who has sent a 1520 back and purchased a dv6000t, could you tell me how you like the dv6000t compaired to the Dell1520. I really liked the 1520 but it was full of issues and by all the hundreds of pics and reviews of the dv600t, and all the customizing I did to the hardware I think it will kick butt. -
Also, I am getting the dv6500t, not the dv6000t. It comes on Monday, so I can't compare the two yet. -
Thanks, did they call you twice during the return process?
-
They didn't call me once. 4 days ago, I went on chat and they told me I would get my refund within 5 business days. They also said that they would "expedite" it, but I'm pretty sure he just wanted to get me off the chat. Anyways, if I don't get credited by Tuesday, I will hop on chat and ask whats going on.
-
They told me up to 31 days to be credited back. But I did call and they did receive both systems. So it will be credited. But I think they take several weeks to process that. I already got an email confirmation for the case credit.. but they said it has not been processed yet. I think they just like to earn a months interest on all the returns.
-
I just checked Dell's website and it says that the refund has been "shipped" under the order status page. I should be getting credited tomorrow.
-
I also see the new coupons are out.. but only for the white SE.. Nows a good time to buy one of those.
-
It's not really a concern but I was just wondering if the DV6000t will be more noisier or run warmer than my dell 1520 since I did put the NVIDIA GO 7400 in the HP?
