Hello, everyone. My HP Compaq nx6325 notebook has recently been having many problems. I know for sure that a trojan is causing all of this, but the problem is, I have no way of getting rid of it. My anti-virus program (BitDefender) is unable to disinfect my computer, and I am unsure of what to do next. To explain what is going on, the start menu will not appear at all. To open or run anything, I must use task manager. My connection to the internet has been destroyed, and internet explorer will not open. When I first start up my computer, it is extremely slow getting past the blue "welcome" screen. I am not sure if any of you have had a similar problem, but I hope at least one of you has some insight as to what I can do about this. I have tried running system restore but cannot do so. I would like to perform some type of system recovery, as I do this all of the time with my desktop PC, but I do not know how to do this on a laptop. Do any of you know how to go about performing a system recovery to reinstall my operating system? I am fairly new to using laptops, and there is a lot I still do not know about them. I do not have any type of recovery cd included with my laptop. Thank you for your time.

Give this a shot. Also, if the problem were mine and my AV didn't work, I'd download a free program such as AVG or Avast, uninstall the old AV program, then install and run the new one.

If these suggestions don't work, you can try downloading HijackThis and requesting help with whatever malware may be found.

Another option (last, least and worst) would be to reformat and reinstall Windows.

    Good luck.

If you are not able to restore your system, you can get very good info on how to disinfect your system from the good people on this site. http://www.dslreports.com/forum/cleanup
I hope I have not violated any forum rules for linking to another forum. These guys are very good. Follow the instruction they give you and you should be good to go.
    Good luck

Can you start in safe mode? I would run the antivirus check in safe mode...actually I would directly reinstall windows. Seems like your laptop is past the healing point.

It will not allow me to enter safe mode, as well. Could you tell me how to reinstall Windows on a laptop? I know how to on desktop PCs, but not laptops. On the desktop PC I am on now, I am able to reinstall everything by pressing F10 at the startup of my computer. On my laptop, nothing happens when I try to do that, so I am assuming it is different for laptops. I am sorry for all of the questions. I just really want this fixed! Thank you.

Do you have a recovery partition on your laptop? If so, it can usually be started via the F10 or F11 keys at the first boot screen. Keep in mind that this will wipe out all of your data.

I would just format (low level if possible) if you don't have any valuable data or programs on your hard drive. It's not worth it to try to go through all the hassle of cleaning out viruses, as they have a nasty habit of not wanting to go away.
