I got the service manual and took apart my compaq cq61 presario to clean it. I have never taken apart a laptop before and didn't seem to have any trouble. I also watched some youtube videos before hand so between those and the service manual It wasn't hard. Everything works accept the keyboard. I plugged in the ribbon just like I reconnected all the other ribbons. I did not smash or crimp the ribbon.
I'm thinking I didn't connect well enough and its not making contact? You know there is the little bar you can lift up. I assumed you put it back down after you placed the ribbon down. All the other ribbons seemed to go in a good bit but this connector isn't as deep. Im thinking, hoping I plugged it in wrong and it's correctable.
If it's not the ribbon? Could I have left something else loose? What else would effect power or control to the keyboard?
Thanks.

Is it possible you put the ribbon in backwards? Typically the contact points are only on one side of the ribbon. If you inserted it reversed, the contacts will be on the wrong side. Something to check.

Thanks for the reply. I tried again after watching a video with a close up of the area.
I was able to avert the traedy. It just wasn't in all the way. Hard to tell if you dont know what its supposed to look like with the bar down.
I had tried 3 times first and was starting to panic cus I cant get parts or another keyboard today. Tricky buggers.
Did I break my keyboard?
