So I did a clean install of Vista, but I wanted to get some of the programs that come with the factory image, such as the HP DVD Player and the Cyberlink burning software. I found the install files off the recovery disks I made, but when I try to run the setup.exe I get an error saying "This software can only be installed in authorized machine". I contacted HP and they want me to do a factory restore, but that would defeat the purpose of my clean install. So does anyone know a way around this? How to make the setup.exe recognize my computer or a place where I can get the original HP software titles? Thanks in advance.

All the drivers are on www.hp.com/support and can be found in C:/SWSETUP on a factory laptop.

I have all the drivers, what I am looking for are some of the programs that come pre-installed on the computer. These are not available for download on HP's site and when I try to run them off the recover disks, I get the message I said earlier. :/

All the programs, apps and utilities would have been in that C:/SWSETUP folder, as well as drivers. You don't have that now unless you do the full recovery to get that folder then do the clean iinstall again.
I backed up my SWSETUP folder a while back, and it has stuff in it for DVD and all the other stuff I might want to use one day if I do a clean install. -
How are you accessing the files on the Recovery Discs?
If you followed my guide, you should have the swsetup folder saved somewhere. Otherwise, there is a way to extract the files from the recovery discs, and then they should install, but it's very involved. You can see the guide "Accessing HP Recovery Disc Files" in my sig. -
I'm not sure why you want the Cyberlink DVD player...it's bloated and will slow down your computer. I'd suggest using VLC Media Player, it's a very small program and supports almost any file type you might want to play: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
