There's a free upgrade to the DVD R/RW on the DV2000t. If I upgrade, will I still be able to write on CDs or will it only be DVDs that can be written? I'm concerned about the costs between blank CDs and blank DVDs.

    A DVD R/RW can read/write/rewrite both cd and dvd's.

    A DVD/CD-RW can read DVD and read/write/rewrite CD's only.

So a DVD Burner is going to give you more options in all cases.
