This is confusing me right now. What exactly is the difference between HP Pavilion DV6500 series and DV6600 series??? Both use Core 2 DUO processors with almost same specifications, so I am confused about the difference. I am getting a good deal on one notebook in DV6600 series, I believe its design is same as DV6500??
Can someone please explain?
-
I believe the dv6600 series has a new imprint design, HDMI out and supports upto 4GB RAM.
-
the dv6500t already has HDMI out an supports 4GB ram (with vista ultimate)
also, the 6600 retail models do not have the new imprint finish
in other words... they are exactly the same, but the dv6600 is only available to buy at stores -
That's exactly what I just heard from the HP sales rep on the phone. According to her the 6600 is essentially equal to the 6500 save that the 6600s are going into big box retail stores.

Thanks for the information everyone. However, I have seen some versions of HP Pavilion DV6500 series being sold in retail shops too,
, does that mean they are 'black'. I mean a lot of shops here in Pakistan buy the laptops perhaps ONLINE in another country and ships it to Pakistan then sell it here on a huge profit margin.

No idea but HP still do sell the dv6500 in the US as well and they are on the verge of starting the dv6600. HP model number naming sequence is basically follows an evolutionary model. For example the dv6000t when it was released first last year started off with a model number of dv6000 followed by dv6100, dv6200, dv6300, dv6400 and so on. Now the dv6500 was a major upgrade hence it was released as separate model when in fact it is just one more evolution of the dv6000. The rest of the dv6x00 updates were minor and hence not widely publicised.
Now in the US HP sell custom to order models and these are sold by the original model number like dv6000 or dv6500 but when it comes to models sold in retail shops or in markets outside the US they get a model number and this is where the evolutionary numbering matters since they have to have a new model number for each new configuration they sell. -
so quick question, is the dv6500t old now? will they be releasing a new one soon?
-
Umm..No. Cant really say when they are going to update these things but considering there are generally tied to a new cpu or gpu releases. So, any updates most likely will be when penryn or nvidia/amd gpus might be released. But thats just speculation on my part, they can update any time they want. In any case updated systems usually have a higher price tag when new so whatever advantages the new things might bring would be dampned by the higher price tag.
-
So I should still go ahead and buy the thing then?
-
Its a fine laptop and if it fits your needs, I don see any reason why not too. Its going to be outdated especially considering notebooks are refreshed almost every year. There will always be new things around the corner and the best thing I would suggest is to buy it when you need it.

True, I'm just wandering if HP will stick a better graphix card in there! but it will still cost more...
