    Hi there,

I need some help to find out the real difference between this notebook and this one.

I read on lot of review sites that it's the same notebook (some of them have title "dm1 (also known as dm1z)". But, first of all if you look at the pictures of dm1z, from the back, it's not the same thing as dm1. But if you click on the product video link you get video with dm1.

The point is, dm1z costs $400 with E-350, 4GB RAM and 250GB HD. You have E-450 options for extra $25. But the notebook on the pictures is ugly.
Dm1 costs $430 with e-350, 3GB RAM and 320GB HD. And it is very nice looking according to provided pictures on the site.

I don't get why is better specification cheaper and not really sure are those dm1z pictures accurate?

    Please help.

The dm1 & dm1z refer to the same notebook. HP usually adds a 'z' to refer to AMD based models & 't' or Intel based ones. The dm1z series has undergone several updates since launch. The first link you provide is for the newest version of the dm1 with the E450 APU & a new design. These are dm1-4xxx series. The second link is for the older model with the E350 (its actually not that old was only released back in january 2011) also referred to as the dm1-3xxx series.

As far as the price difference, I dont see a big difference if you configure them equally. The newer model might actually be cheaper to produce.

Notebook on the first link can be customized, but the other one can't.

So the product demo actually shows older model? Older model is so much nicer.

The new one was released September 21st. HP hasnt managed to update the links etc which still point to the older model. The old model was configurable until the new one was released. They are just selling off whatever they had left in stock. The new one has some benefits when it comes to a slightly improved graphics with turbo boost & a bump in the processor speed for the E450.

As far as the looks are concerned...I own the older model but the newer one doest look bad, it cleans out some of the buldges especially with the battery which can look awkward in certain situations. In any case looks are subjective some people like the old one some the new!

Thank you very much for your answers. I found better pictures of the new model...it isn't that bad. I'll go for it. With some coupon I can get it for $394 with E-450.
