The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved.     I realize that this is probably a stupid question, but what, exactly, is the difference between HP and Compaq, since I see references to there being identical models with different model numbers under their respective logos. I'm looking to upgrade (see my sig), and I'm a bit confused, especially since what appears to be an identically configured v5000 system is approximately $135 cheaper as a Compaq. :confused:

    Basically they are both the same. The HP comes with a few extra multimedia features(like quickplay) and the designs are different. But underneath they use the same parts. The price usually keeps fluctuating, sometimes the Compaq is cheaper sometimes the HP is. cheaper
