I've been looking to buy a mid-range/ lower high-range laptop for a few weeks now. I need it for web development/ casual gaming.
Zeroed in on y560 but the constant reports of screen issues threw me off
Now I have two choices,
dv6 - 3052tx or 3053tx
3052tx - i7 720Q, 4gig ram, 640gb HDD, 5650 graphic card, fingerprint reader
cost : 63k INR about $1340 (Everything is expensive, import costs)
3053tx - i5 450m, 3 gig, 500 gb HDD, 5650 graphic card, touchscreen display
cost: 60k INR about $1280
They both have the same graphic card
Is the i7 worth the $50 extra and the touchscreen display? (in the long run)
And is the touchscreen display bug-free and long-lasting?
Which one would you pick? :?

Go for the i7, you will thank me for it in the long run. The 4GB RAM is larger than the other you listed and will also run faster at 1333MHz in dual channel.
The i7 has its memory controller on the actual CPU itself. Where as the i5 is a dual packaged CPU/GPU (seperate CPU and GPU/MCH on the same socket G chip), thus the memory controller is on the GPU part of the package, latencys are much higher than compared with the i7 (lower latency is always better).
Unless you need the touchscreen for anything, then you should be able to answer that one yourself. Personally if you have a keyboard and mouse, a touchscreen is a novelty item. -
i7 it is. These laptops havent been facing real over-heating issues right? Except a few? -
well, it shouldn't overheat, no laptops should overheat... but if it does, you have few options... replacing one with new, undervolting, AS5 or MX3 thermal compounds, cooling stand, ...
-
Oh..
If we over-clock lets say..And something happens(heat issue for e.g.) does it mean the warranty is void? -
Yes, the warranty is void....if they find out
-
One other thing:
i7 = Quad Core (8 threads)
i5 = Dual Core (4 threads)
Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 all support Symmetrical Multiprocessing (SMP). Put it this way, the cores will get used.
