I just got a Compaq V2000Z recently, and I'm really loving the computer. However, at the bottom right and left hand corners of the screen, there are two noticeable "dim" spots (they're not bright like the rest of the screen). I'm wondering if this is the case with all models of the V2000Z or if I should send it back for a new one. Thanks!

    TruthSerum,

This may be a problem with the actual LCD itself or a problem with the installation of the LCD. If there's pressure spots which slightly flexes the LCD, the backlight may not illuminate the LCD correctly. It's like it you were to press the back of the LCD a bit you would see a dark/light spot where you're pressing. If the LCD was installed correctly and is in working order, you shouldn't really see any bright/dark spots anywhere on the LCD. I'd recommend going to a local shop that sells these models or series of notebooks and see if the problem also exists. If it doesn't, then I'd recommend sending the unit back for replacement or for repair (depends if it's after HP's 30 day exchange/return policy).

I had a L2000 and now a V2312us and they both have slightly dim lower corners. I don't think sending it back will fix ur problem, its a backlighting issue that exisits in all the l2000 and v2000z's i have seen. (which is quite a few)

I have a slightly dim corner on my zv5000z too. I think the reason for this is because the notebook LCD isn't bright enough? I've never seen it on a Sony LCD before as an example.

I got a M2105 and have noticed that it too has a dim spot in the lower right hand corner, where the windows time is displayed. Does this happen on all Compaqs??? Will the spot get larger with time?

Is this something you see when you open an all white screen?

Try opening a new doccument in Word - maximize it, so the screen should be uniform white.

Is it a pressure point, like something was pushed against the LCD, or dimm like a lack of backlight.

I havent seen this on mine (yet) knocking on wood

If you do notice dim spots on your LCD, the best thing to do is to checkout other units at your local computer store and see if this is common. If the units there don't have the issue, then I'd get the unit replaced.

As I indicated in my post above, and what Sept1967 reiterated, this is due to uneven pressure spots due to flex or an uneven backlight.

I just got my new ThinkPad R50e, which has the same "dim sports" issue. I thought to return it, but after I checked the notebook in circuitcity, I found out most of notebook have the same problem, just how dark it is.
