Has anyone had any success with the dv6t-6100 Radeon 6770M and Directx11 games?

I heard that our card supports it, but when I tried a few games, including Civilization 5 and Deus Ex Human Revolution, it has been extremely laggy/froze up on me. I would need to switch to DX9 or DX10 in order to get the game playable.

Any input would be appreciated! Can you please list the game you tried, and what you did to get it to work?

    Thanks all!

Sure it supports it, but its too weak to make use of its capabilities. Your best bet is to go dx9 and max that out.

Tessalation and some effects are nice, but on a laptop of this level, not a reality im afraid. Though this laptop still is a nice bit of kit, the GFX card is high mid level.

So basically, the DX11 that is touted by this card is just BS since we aren't even able to truly utilize it?

Deus Ex Human Revolution?.........u must be playing the "leaked" beta, an incomplete game......and a torrented one at that. Keyword there is "Beta". Official worldwide release is in August.
Civ 5.....what CPU does your DV6 have? Is it patched? Civ5 has issues and is a CPU heavy game.
I play Lord of the Rings Online which uses DX10, and alot of DX11 shaders....no issues there.
Battlefield Bad Company 2(Dx11) runs fine for me....if you having issues, maybe u could try updating your drivers and/or lowering your settings.

'Dirt 3' runs just fine on a dv6teqe with HD 6770M at 1920x1080.

Yes, Deus Ex is a leaked beta, and I only mentioned as a reference. I did assume that Civ5 would work though, and have installed all the updates. I have the i7-2630QM 2GHZ - is this not enough to run?

As for battlefield bad company 2 and dirt 3, did you guys install any non-stock drivers to make them run DX11 well? I used Microsoft's DirectX end user run time installer.

Well I'm running the 11.5a Cats(Tried 11.5b&11.6 cats but 11.5a seems to give me the best performance so far).
As for Civ5 I dunno, I dont play it but a quick Google gives me well, hundreds of performance related threads over the net. So Im guessing its more of a game issue than your actual card.

Yeah, I tried googling it too, and i read through about 20 different pages - the problem is that none of them had the same card/specs as us.

Has anyone here successfully played Civ 5 retail or the demo in dx11 mode?

I know it's a lot to ask, but if not, can anyone try downloading the demo and see? That way I can determine if it's an issue with my PC.

I'm going to try out a couple of directx 11 benchmarks. I've researched a couple, including Unigine, and aliens vs predator benchmark.

    Will post some results

Unigine is designed to hammer your Tesselation on Dx11 cards, so dont be too disappointed with your results. But you can set it to different levels and also bench it using dx9/10 or 11

OK I'm going to try to explain the results I got the best I can.

If you guys have tried running 3dMark Vantage....and seen it stutter like crazy, that is basically what it looks like when I run all the DX11 benchmarks (Unigine, aliens vs predator).

Right now, I'm guessing that it has to do with the 11.5b hotfix drivers.

Does anyone else know why this happens? It's hard to describe, except that it shows the picture of the graphics test, and it stutters crazily until it skips to the next frame, and then stutters again like crazy.

I am honestly unsure what to do right now. I am hesitant to do a system restore.

Although I'm not a gamer I like to run benchmarks once and a while just because well they look cool..lol The Aliens vs Predator one runs smooth on my dv7t...same video card. In the $1,000 laptop price range the ATI & Nvidia cards are going to run pretty much the same.

that's just the 11.5b driver. it still completes the benchmark and gives you an accurate score. only time i've seen that issue in game is for dragon age 2 in full screen, and running it in window mode fixes it.

just update to the official 11.6 driver from amd. it is better and more stable.

teotuf, did you download a special 11.6 driver or did you get it from AMD? I tried installing it, but when I check my CCC, it still says 11.5, and when I go to device manager, it now detects my card as Radeon 6700M instead of 6770M.

otacon - the aliens vs predator benchmark runs well on your PC? what driver version are you on for your gpu?

So I did minimal install, and got DX11 working. I did NOT install the 11.5b hotfix drivers, as that was what caused the issues for DX11 for me in the first place. It wasn't just in benchmarking where I saw stuttering, it was in all dx11 games as well.

So instead, I just went from stock, downloaded the updated drivers from the HP site, and updated them. I did NOT do the windows update. My performance has also been a lot better than when I was using 11.5b.

I'm a bit hesitant to go 11.6 though, as I've heard several people with issues, so I might just stick with this current setup. I think i might ignore all hardware related updates from Windows Update in the future.
