Forgive me if this has an obvious answer:

I've got a Pavilion dv6308nr, and I recently stripped the ribbon cable that allowed the power button to function. My options were to send my notebook in for two weeks to have them replace a simple cable or to buy one off of eBay for $15-20 USD. I didn't like either so I just replaced the power button's cable with an identical one that used to power the QuickPlay buttons.

So, now the power button works but the QuickPlay buttons do not. No big deal. I'd like to know the best way to disable the software/drivers for the QP buttons just to avoid any future conflicts. Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance.

As long as you dont try to update/reinstall the Quicklaunch buttons software you should be fine. But if you dont see using the special function keys(Fn+F1-F12) then you can safely delete the Quicklaunch buttons software and disable the hardware in device manager.

I'm in device manager right now. I see HP Quick Launch under human interface devices and some "direct application launch button"s under system devices. I'm really unfamiliar with HP and laptops in general; do you know specifically what I should be disabling here? I also can't find any software in program files or programs and features.

Sorry for my ignorance, I'm learning. Thanks for the response.

I would leave the devices as is and only disable it if you uninstall the Quicklaunch buttons software. It is strange that you didnt find the package in 'Uninstall Programs' menu. However you can try uninstalling from the deivce manager entry for the HP Quicklaunch. As for as the direct launch buttons, I would leave it as is since uninstalling the Quicklaunch buttons should take care of them.
