    Disabling 9600M GT on dv5t

    Hi!
    I am going to buy my first notebook. HP's dv5t is a good choice regarding to its price and graphic performance. I want to do a lot of 3d modelling tasks. On the other hand I have a great deal of programming and office working which do not need high graphics. Unfortunately the 9600M GT consumes much unnecessary energy or the latter which causes low battery life.

    I want to know whether I can disable 9600M and work with X3100 integrated as can be done on a PC using device manager, and only enable it for gaming and rendering. Does this improve battery life?

    Switchable GPUs are limited only to a few notebooks, and the dv5t isn't one of them. There is no any X3100 there, it's only the 9600M GT.

    Your notebook has the PM45 chipset, which does not include the X4500.
    A couple of notebooks from Fujitsu and BenQ, come with Hybrid Graphics w/9600M GT, but the notebook must be designed in a way to support this feature, and the DV5t isn't designed to support this feature.

    But it does have a downclocking feature that'll save some power. If you want you could probably downclock it some more.

    Sounds like you just have to spring for a better battery. I suspect the GPU will already use the minimal amount of energy it needs for the task at hand, which makes sense in the world of laptops

    Or you can download the latest modded driver from laptopvideo2go.com. They enable powermizer which will underclock your GPU when it is not in use.

    The 9600m gt in the dv5t downclocks itself when not doing a task that requires it to operate at full or even half potential. At least that is what mine does. It goes from 500 core clock and 1250 shader clock to 100 somethin core clock and 269 or somethin shader clock. I got the high capacity 6 cell with mine because the 12 was not available at the time, I would go with the 12 because of battery life (even though I get about 3 hours 15min), and so that it lifts the back off of the surface so it can breath when I play crysis... Great choice btw on getting a dv5t, it is also my 1st computer...

    you may download Evga precision if 1.3.2 if you wanna see the exact #'s. Im using another computer right now so sorry that I could not give you the exact figures.

    the easiest thing to do is uninstall that nvidia driver.
    so ur computer just run on vga display.
