From what i have read online it sems that the LED displays are brighter and the contrast/colors are brighter than the regular Displays. Is this accurate? Another post mentioned they last less than regular displays. Is this accurate?

Never heard about them lasting less time. They are meant to be of better quality but im not sure its worth changing your choice of laptop over. i.e. if theres one with a non LED screen which has better spec id go for that.

I've never heard of that. Actually one benefit of LED-screens is that they will not dim over time like non-LED CCFL screens.

White LED manufacturers are not particularly up-front about it, but white LEDs will dim over time. See i.e.:

    http://www.netl.doe.gov/SSL/PDFs/lifetimeWhiteLEDs_aug16_r1.pdf

Lumen maintenance for LED screens may actually be worse than for CCFL screens; it depends entirely on the quality of LEDs used by the manufacturer.

LED displays do provide brighter screens with less power consumption(so better battery life). They also have a longer lifespan.

Of course, this is in general terms. In no way is a CCFL screen bad >.> Just that LED is newer technology and it doesn't necessarily guarantee a better image anyways(as with all things, depends on who made it and blah blah).

I believe the Apple Macbook Air has an LED screen, so if you can make it to an Apple store you can see one for yourself.

I have found LED screens to be over-rated. They do not look significantly better than a good-quality CCFL screen, and a few I have seen have been washed out. Simply because a display has LED backlighting does not automatically make it superior. They are advantageous to have in a smaller laptop where weight and power savings are important, but in larger machines, they are less of a selling point.

LED screens are quite new so I would wait a bit to see how well they hold up. I have several white LEDs lights around the house and their brightness drops off quickly after a few months of use.

considering that LED backlit LCD TVs ranging from 32-46" have a dynamic contrast ratio of 100,000:1 like the plasmas, I'd say that could be another benefit of the LED screens on a notebook

AFAIH, the LED displays last longer than LCD displays. Plus they are brighter and sharper and thinner. I've had Dell XPS M1330 with and without LED displays and the difference is day and night.
