    I don't know what's going on but it just started today.

    I switched from using a VGA to an HDMI cable to link my external monitor to my laptop. When I close the lid and open it back up, my laptop has no display and my desktop moves over to the External Display. The only way I get it back on my laptop display is to use the function button which just clones it and I would have to use the ATI Catalyst Control Center to get it back to normal again. I opened up Catalyst and closed the lid and I tried opening it back up. It then shows my Laptop display is disabled. Everytime I close and open the lid, it gets disabled. What could be causing this and how can I fix this problem?

    I don't know if this will help, but try this (this will only work for Vista):

    Right click on desktop and go to "personalize"
    Click on "connect to a projector or other external display" (on the left)
    Click on "Connect display"

    This should find/sense your monitor/external display. It will then give you a choice of how you want the display to work. Choose the one you want.

    You could also just change the power settings so that closing the lid doesn't do anything.

    I hope this helps (though I doubt it will)!

    Yes the display is off when the lid is closed. But when I open it back up. I only get display on my External Monitor, not the LCD on my laptop itself. I've set it so that when I close the lid it does nothing, but the display will still automatically turn off just like all laptops.

    I think it's just the HDMI. When I close my lid, the desktop transports to the external. Opened the lid 10-15 seconds later it goes back to my laptop display. Just updated some drivers... Not as bad as before.

    @Future paramedic

    Yes, what you suggested works. I use presenters view in powerpoint for my presentations and when I plug in the connection I get those options you are talking about.
