I'm using a compaq nx9040 laptop running windows XP and I've recently noticed a few issues.

Namely, for some reason, resolution, backgrounds, and some images don't seem to be displaying properly. Internet Explorer displays text and buttons that look considerably bigger than usual, and both IE and Firefox do not display all images correctly, or backgrounds at all. Likewise, a few offline program windows display huge fonts with odd or no colours/backgrounds. I only noticed this recently - nearly everything else is functioning fine. I've checked my internet settings, reconfigured and updated my monitor drivers, and I have absolutely no idea why it's doing this.

To make it more confusing, I first noticed this problem earlier today when I first connected to the internet. Leaving the computer to think about the problem, I came back to try a different approach, and the display was working perfectly.

I'm not even really sure this is purely a display problem - as I said, it's only a few programs, but it's *really* annoying - if anyone has any advice, I'd be glad to hear it.

    Just some ideas:

1: Run display at native resolution
    2: Toggle on "ClearType"
3: Play around with your font sizes
4: Uninstall the display drivers totally, shut down machine totally (power off) then reinstall.
5: Go into SAFE MODE, to do #4.... Check under display properites in device manager to see if only (1) instance of gpu is showing, no double entries.
6: Run virus, spyware apps, in SAFE mode.... before doing so disable system monitoring as allot of virus spyware hids in there.
7: Consider that you have a hardware problem... maybe heat related?
8: You say you updated the drivers, You're using the ones from HP, right?
