I have a DV9774ca. Vista with SP1 working just fine. All drivers, etc, up to date.

I can play downloaded Divx TV shows fine in Media Player, but when I play via new HDMI cable to HDMI in on my TV it does not come out right on my widescreen TV, not the same as on the laptop monitor, theres a black band top and bottom to make the image slightly squished, its fine on the laptop.

On my TV I can't use the button to zoom, Full, wide-zoom or Normal....its sticking with Full!

Other stuff looks better in Windows Media Center, but it will not play Divx, it always says one or more codecs are required. This even just on the laptop alone, without the HDMI cable plugged in yet. I downloaded Vista Codec Pack. It didn't help. I downloaded more stuff, ffshow and Mediacontroller (I had Googled for help). These also did not help. Then I read somewhere to get rid of the ffdshow and mediacontroller and just use Vista Codec Pack. i tried that again, all fresh today, still no Divx in Media Center. I have tried several known working tv shows. (I used to copy to DVD-RW and watch on TV that way).

Please can anyone tell me how they get Divx to work in Media Center?

Same stuff on my desktop computer plays in Media Center with just an older version of Vista Codec Pack from months ago. Nothing else iinstalled as far as codecs, etc. So this is really bugging me why the laptop is different.

Try a different codec pack. K-Lite Mega Codec Pack or VLC codec pack

Ill test this when i get home. I have the K-Lite pack installed. I know it works with quickplay.

Also you should be able to set everything for HDTV through nvidia control panel

I honestly don't think WMC is worth any trouble. The program is so bad, at least for me. I added songs on my WMC, but they didn't show up. So, I did it two more times. The still didn't show up, after an hour I restarted WMC, and there were three copies of each song.

Now I can't delete the songs or do anything. =/

    Winamp ftw.

Not sure about the WMC part of the question, but for the HDMI connection you will not be able to use the TV's resizing menu. The reason is the HDMI standard is a High definition one and the resizing option is only designed for sources below High Definition ie. 576p or lower.

Thanks for response. I'll give the ffdshow and k-lite mega a go tonight.
I had downloaded ffdshow the other day and didn't help. Probly because I hadn't configured something in it! Doing more Googling people say to uninstall all that and grab the latest Vista Codec Pack that covers everything...in fact the info say Divx in Media Center, not for me for some reason! Like I said it does play Divx on my desktop with only Vista Codec pack from last July.

I should try PowerDVD since it plays Divx stuff on the laptop, I forgot to try it via HDMI to the TV. Perhaps it won't be squashed with black bands top and bottom like Media Player.

I was only trying to use Media Center since its all new to me and came with my Premium version of Vista!

Yep, just tried it....PowerDVD looks great via HDMI to the TV. Can't complain and easier to use. (used to that for dvds). I'll use that from now on.

OK, its a little later, I got round to trying K-lite Mega pack. Now Media Center will play Divix programs I downloaded, and comes on Tv via HDMI pretty good with one exception, every 20 seconds or so it sort of stutters, like the picture sort of pause unpause and jittery for abour 3 seconds then it catches up.
I do not have the laptop monitor on, it just displays on the Tv at the time. (I know having both displays running causes some wierdness). The same tv show in any other media program does not do that, just so I know its not the tv show.
I looked at all the settings for K-Lite mega pack. Beats me what to tweak. Also I noticed ffdshow in the mega pack. So thats covered too.
