    Hi everyone,

I'm an 'almost" happy owner of a HP DM1..
    model DM1-3100 (bought in BELGIUM).
I've read the service manual before buying this model, because I wanted to be sure I could install a 3G mini pci-e card.
To my joy the manual had all the options already in the netobook, BUT to my surprise when I opened the DM1Z : no sim card reader, no m-pcie slot and no antennas.
Has I already added these things to my old Aspire One (had same 'surprise') and ordered the missing pieces and soldered them yesterday onto the DM1 (i've bought sim card reader, mini pci-e slot (4mm) and 2 wwlan antennas).
BUT the only thing now : the Gobi m-pcie card is not found in OS (no hardware detected).
I suspect that we (as for the Aspire One) need to shortcircuit 2 pins on the motherboard to activate the missing 2nd wwlan mini-pcie slot.

SO, my question to you all : can you put or send me some highdef pictures of the motherboard with m-pcie & sim card reader (I think all US models have the 2nd slot), so I can check with this motherboard and see where the difference lies in terms of pins.

This happend also with my old Aspire One, only 2 pins who needed to be soldered with each other to activate mini-pcie slot...so, I sure this is the case too.

I'm certain we can find a way to activate this slot, so all the owners of a crippled DM1Z can add this on their own.

I hope I receive a positive response form you all..

Thanks to everyone who wants to help out!

    Cheers,
    Davy

    Hi,
Did you have any luck so far? Exactly what is your model number? I see that in many country pages HP has exactly same specifications under 2 different models.

    For example at French site:
Ordinateurs portables multimédia HP Pavilion dm1-3100 Particuliers et Travail à domicile
There are LM563EA and LE917EA which are similar, also LM564EA and LE928EA which are similar. I have no idea what might be the difference between them simce all specs seem to be exactly same?

What does HP say about the missing minipci and sim slots? Since they were mentioned in the manual, cant you get HP to service your dm1z for correcting the "manufacturing error" ? :)

    Thanks,

    Hi,

I've installed 2nd mini-pcie slot and sim card reader.
But still waiting for someone to post pictures of motherboard with 3g preinstalled so I can trace pins for the power of both missing elements.
In attatchement some pictures of my motherboard (with the both soldered already on it).

    Cheers,
    Davy

Perhaps it would be much easier to buy one dm1z with existing minipci slot from USA through eBay or something.

It's been too long since the last post. davy28, were you able to get the mini pci slot to work?

I also have a DM1-3205au and I'm very interested in in doing this mod.
