    Hi all,

i bought a new HP envy 14 and after a week, tried to use it without the battery and instead just straight from the ac adapter. The laptop booted up, got into the windows login screen, and i entered my password and got into windows. As it loaded into windows, my laptop would instantly suddenly shut off. I turned it back on and same thing happened.

So the AC adapter works.. i am able to recharge my battery and start the laptop without the battery, but as soon as it goes into windows,, it shuts off.. anyone else having this problem?

Why don't you check your temperatures. It could force an insta-shut off.

The E14 will display a thermal shutdown message at the next boot if that's the case. I suspect AHCI problem or windows installation corrupted.

    hey thanks for the replies.

It's definitely not a heat issue, since it never happens if the battery was in there. It only shuts off when using ac adapter only (with no battery). I am leaning towards something corrupt in windows, since it only shuts off when entering windows.

I tried a few more times, and it seems like sometimes i can get into windows and use it for a while until it suddenly shuts off again, and sometimes it shuts off straight away upon entering into the desktop.

And this is a brand new laptop. :(

Maybe you have a faulty power brick, or worse a faulty part in the laptop. Either it's loose or anytime it takes a nice gulp of juice it has a chance of cutting itself off. Your battery charges, but it might not be getting a constant flow.

This is speculation of course - I'd try another power brick first - any HP adapter (90w) from a store should do and you can return it once you have your conclusion.

    Thanks for the suggestion pongalong!!

My new official HP slim 90w adapter came today, and it actually works.. so far no sudden shut offs.

But the only thing that worried me was that the cable between the laptop and the ac brick doesnt snap in on the ac brick, so i just used by existing cable instead which did snap in... HP quality isnt that good i suppose. But other than that it seems to be working, so a big thank you for your suggestion =D
