According to one of the eight support agents I've discussed this with today, my laptop outputs SPDIF through one of the two headphone jacks. I have both types of cables and my receiver will work with optical or coax, although I prefer optical. I would try both cables with my receiver except I don't have an adapter. I guess I'm going to have to buy an SPDIF 3.5mm to Coaxial and an SPDIF 3.5mm to Optical. The adapters are dirt cheap at monoprice.com. Here is a link to the Optical adapter at monoprice for $1.74.
