Do I need a dedicated video card for video editing/photoshop?

I'm planning to purchase a dv5t soon and I was wondering if I would need to upgrade the integrated graphics chip just in case if it'll be a bottleneck for photoshop, and Sony Vegas. I do a lot of video editing more than I do photoshop and I was wondering if a integrated video card can handle all that, or should I spend a few hundred dollars and get a dedicated video card.

What are the requirements for both programs? You should get some clues from the manufacturers of the programs.

I would strongly recommend a low end dedicated video card. Integrated stuff will work, but even a lower end dedicated card will work much faster because of the offload from the CPU.

Finally a person that uses Sony Vegas and Photoshop. I use both of those programs alongside with Premiere and Soundbooth. I can confirm that the newer CS3 programs are resource intensive. Sony Vegas requires a decent GPU to operate as intended. I HIGHLY suggest getting a dedicated GPU. The better the GPU the less lag and flareups you'll get. I used to have an integrated card and it made me so frustrated.

Yeah integrated WILL work... but really not all that smoothly or well. :( I would try to go with at least a lower end Dedicated GPU unless battery life is extremely important. :)

I take it you are referring to the fact that most people use their computers for gaming instead of stuff like photo and video editing? :)

There aren't very many people that are knowledgeable of these types of software. I remember when I first used Vegas. "What is a light ray?" lol :)

I agree. That's why when I saw this post and your reply, it caught my attention. I just bought a dv7t and use it for audio and video production.

I might start up a HP site where only HP users can unite and do things such as this. A wiki would probably be included for people who encounter problems. They can just type in their problem and it comes up.
