I rarely watch videos on my notebook and I don't play games.
Can I shut off QuickPlay in the msconfig area/startup. The only thing I seem to lose is access to the webcam, but there may be more to it then I realize. This is the first HP notebook I've owned.
thanks!

I think thats pretty much it. The webcam will work in other programs that use webcams like video conferencing. Does it really use much resources just for startup? It does have the ability to play dvds from a folder on your hard drive which windows media player makes overly complex.

Is there an advantage to playing from this folder?
Thanks, -
If you are storing movies on your hard drive rather than playing from DVD. However I use Media Player Classic for this, as I no longer have Quickplay installed....

Thanks. I'm going to disable or uninstall it. Don't like the interface anyway and have been using MediaPlayer to play back my digital camera videos.

Just be aware that your media buttons will no longer function if Quickplay is removed.....................

That's odd.. I formatted and installed a clean version of XP, and my media buttons still work.

Really? Mine do nothing but chirp (except for the Quickplay button itself, which acts as a power switch)........

I just disabled them. Don't use them and don't mind the extra steps to play a dvd. I keep hitting it by mistake anyway (instead to the on button). Now that's a pain. I twiddle my thumbs while it all loads slooowly, then must close the ugly QuickPlay window. I prefer the Windows media player anyway.
Do I really need QuickPlay?
