Happy New Year everyone!
I was wondering if someone with a 1680x1050 res on a 17" laptop felt generous enough to take a screenshot sized for a 17" of some windows (like the Internet and wordpad, etc.) side by side (or 4 at a time on the screen) at the 96 dpi and 120 dpi settings. I'm wanting to see the extra real estate and also see if my eyes can take it.
I'm having a heck of a time finding anything like this online and I can't believe no one in town has this res on a 17" for me to see in person! Does anyone know why 1440x900 seems to be the 'preferred' res for retailers, btw?

Would 1920,1200 work?
-
Thanks for replying! If you don't think it would be too much of a difference, I'd love to see it.

Give me some time... ill get some shots for ya.

Here you go, IE with Wordpad side by side. I have no problem with the extra realestate and resolution.
FYI - Make sure you are looking at the full image. Firefox tends to shrink the image automatically.Attached Files:

Wowwwwwww!
Is that at 96 dpi or 120? That's beautiful! -
Two ESPN windows side by side. IE made as wide as page to avoid lateral scroll bar.

That is the 96dpi (default) on my dv9000t

Thanks so much for the screens. They are exactly what I was looking for. I'm sold!
That seems so easy to read. I've been reading so much about the different screen resolutions but at some point you just have to look at them and decide for yourself, ya know!?
Thanks again for this. You've been a fantastic help! -
Heres one more good comparison...
First one shows 1440x900 resolution (WXGA+) and the maximum possible viewing settings for layout view in MSOffice 2007.
The second shows how this window shows in 1680x1050 resolution (WSXGA+).
The third shows the maximum possible viewing settings for layout view in MSOffice 2007 at 1680x1050 resolution.
82% is the max zoom before MSWord reverts to 1 page view in WXGA+
97% is the max zoom before MSWord reverts to 1 page view in WSXGA+Attached Files:

That's a great comparison Tokar. Thank you for doing this!
There is a huge difference between these screen res for sure.
Does anyone have a guess why the stores mainly carry the 1440x900 for 17" instead of a 1680x1050? -
Typically, store models are fond of using the most basic setups and don't include any of the higher tier options without ridiculous price options. :X

Ah, I see! I just couldn't figure out why no one in town had this res on any 17" laptop, not just HP. The closest I found was a 22" widescreen desktop monitor running at 1680x1050.
-
Yeah, the custom order models are the ones which come withthe higher end screens (WSXGA+ or WXGA+ Ultrabright).
I think its kinda dumb, but i guess they dont want to give people a choice in store so they can get rid of the low-end screens.
Do You Have a 17" with 1680x1050?
