Ive got my dv5t with the 9600m GT sitting up about 2 inches in the back on top of erasers. Ive got a fan pointing at it also lol. Anyways, i was gaming last night on FSX and my CPU temps were mid 60's and the hottest the gpu got was 85 on all high settings. When i turned on my fan pointed at the laptop they all went down about 5. So do you think i really need a cooler, i kinda want to save my money lol.

Those temps are fine, save your money.
The CPU is rated for 105*C, and the GPU is within its limits. 85*C is a normal temperature for a GPU these days.
Make sure you clean out your vents every once in a while with compressed air to keep it in top shape. -
I think i will save my money right now ive got my fan goin full blast and my temps are
TZO1 - 37
Core0 - 25
Core1 - 31
GPU- 41
HDD - 32.
definetly cool. My hands are FrEEZing tho lol -
shoelace_510 8700M GT inside... ^-^;
Agreed. Your temps seem fine, and what you've done already seems almost a bit overkill.
Notebooks were meant to be used for long durations of time in high performance situations. I wouldn't worry about a cooler unless your notebook become noticeably warm. -
haha the only reason i put the fan was cause last night it felt like i could cook an egg on the left palm rest lol.

hmm, if ur hands were freezing, u won't be able to play ur gmaes and 2 u should wear gloves.

My GPU went up to 92C....thought it was high, and it was with the antec notebook cooler
-
antec (and other notebook coolers which have fans in the center of the pad) aren't going to work well for the dv5, since their vents seem to be all located in one corner.

I'm trying to use rivatuner, but there seems to be NO tab for the fan settings....?

As Chaz said, keeping the vents clean will help, but I do recommend a notebook cooler if you will be doing a lot of gaming. Otherwise, as long as it's not at 85C + for most of the time, it should be ok.
The dv5z/t just seem to be warm running notebooks.
Needless to say, I don't think in the short term it would cause any damage, I would consider that the upper midrange - low high range temperature, but anything above 90C and I'd start to get very uncomfortable. -
You can't go wrong with this cooler:
