It should be. The Vista Express upgrade program is a Microsoft sponsered initiative & HP is participating in it, so I would assume that as long as you bought it from a HP authorised reseller & have the receipt any HP/Compaq laptop sold after Oct 26 should be eligible for the upgrade.

Become a member of Costco and you wouldnt need to pay the extra price, but I believe there is an extra yearly charge associated with becoming a member.

Costco membership is $50 a year. Non-members typically pay a 5% surcharge on listed prices if they elect not to join. For laptops, becoming a member is almost always going to save you money.

Since it is a "club", with "members"... that pay a yearly fee there is a upcharge for non-members to buy.

Be aware that if you were to say for example "pay" the non-member fee, and have to return a unit... and are looking to purchase another (same model as a replacement, or something totally differant) be aware that more than likely the "new" purchase would be considered a SEPERATE transaction, because it is... and you'd have to "pay" that non-member fee again.... ;)

Go for the membership... either that or buy direct from HP and get only a  21-day  return window, vs :) 180 :) days with COSTCO.

PS: Be also aware that by using "some" credit cards the mfg's warranty is doubled. :D .. which is a good thing if your card offers that service.
