For the dv2000t, the recovery disc for windows xp pro is an additional 10.00. I want to do a fresh install of xp so will i need this?

i'm assuming that the recovery disc is an xp pro disc in which case yes you need it unless you already have one

recovery disks on the other hand are usually disk images which revert your hard drive back to factory settings so you can't do fresh installs with them

your either gonna want a reinstallation disk, where it sorta verifies that you have xp installed and then does a fresh install, recovery wont really do a fresh install i think.

or you could borrow one. just make sure you own a key that matches the version of the disk you have. ie xp home key for xp home disk

check out magical jelly bean software and write down your key.

The $10 gets you an OS install disc... with the SATA drivers already slipstreamed in.

YES YOU WILL NEED THIS... WORTH EVERY PENNY.

And yes the $10 OS install disc... will allow you to do a total format of the hard drive, wiping everything clean...

If you have that $10 OS install disc, can you use it on another brand computer to do a clean install??? I got a used computer for my mom, and it already has XP on it, I just want to do a clean install for her b/c the person before didn't have any disc and still has a lot of junk on the computer. But what do you expect when you get a Pentium-M 1.6 machine for $100.

The $10 install disc has an embedded key.... and in most cases a mfg disc provided by one mfg will not work on another.

To be sure on that call up MicroSoft and ask them.

So does the $10 OS install disc also include all of the bloatware that is on the dv2000t or is it a 'fresh' install of XP?

It is a clean copy of Win XP. It does not contain any bloatware or drivers.

You don't need to buy one. If you have a recovery cd/partition that creates the i386 folder on your hard drive then you can make a clean OEM disc using those. However that is incomplete. What is missing are the OEMBIOS files. You can however extract them from your system directory.

After that you can create a normal OEM disc or unattended or slipstreamed.
