I'm thinking of buying the Pavilion dm4x in USA and taking it back with me to the UK, will it be covered there too?
Its quite an expensive model (I know some of the cheaper models might not have it...)
EDIT:
Just found this off the HP website:
Q9. Is warranty transferable between countries ?
Most HP products sold on or after 2nd August 1999 are provided with Global Warranty cover. HP can provide warranty service on your product in any country where we have a service presence (either provided by HP directly, or via HP accredited Service Providers) - currently this amounts to approximately 150 countries worldwide.
Warranty provided will be delivered according to the HP warranty offering in the country of use.

So, i'm guessing it is covered![]()

IIRC, only 1st year is international warranty.
-
IIRC?
And the laptop only has warranty for one year so that's cool. -
That's not true. I just purchased a HP Pavilion dv7 in the U.S., and took it to Brazil with me (where HP is supported). After 1 month the screen now has an unsightly horizontal line through the middle of the screen.
I called up HP and they told me that the warranty is only available in the U.S. and not only do I have to courier it to them, they cannot courier it back to me. I have to send it to a U.S. address, have them courier it, then once repaired HP will courier it back to that address. Then that address will have to courier it back to me in Brazil.
Not only does this seem absolutely superfluous, I don't have a U.S. address I can send it to so it basically means my warranty is void. I guess their comments "Most HP products sold on or after 2nd August 1999 are provided with Global Warranty cover. " do not cover notebooks? Seems odd.
The initial people I have spoken to at HP have forwarded me to their supervisors for additional information. We'll see what they say, but I don't have much hope. If they don't offer me a better solution then I will not be purchasing HP/compaq products again and I would strongly advice anyone else thinking of purchasing a HP computer in the US and taking it to another country not to do so.
I will follow up on this post if the supervisors come back with a better solution.

Dax is right, while you can have an international warranty, any repairs need to happen in the country of origin. This means if you go back to the UK with it, you'll have to send it in for repairs from inside the US.
Sorry for the inconvenience,
Paul -
THAT IS WRONG
sheesh.
Your warranty is valid worldwide.
I had an 8730w which died while i was in CHINA. i was able to get it repaired there under my BRITISH warranty the middle of last year.
I had no special warranty, just the 3 years i got when i bought the machine.
... sigh paul
as long as it is a HP authorised SERVICE CENTRE (it has to be a service centre) they will repair it wherever you are. do not let them fool you into thinking it is one country only. I have had my DV6 from the states repaired in hong kong under the bs warranty that has! so yea.
people seem to be willing to throw money at hp for 'international warranties' but are unaware they have them already.
in answer to your question dreamy, because we have several service centres, your american model will be covered here.
hell models from 2006 i have extended standard warranties on, that i bought from the US are still covered here.

And if they don't have a service center and are sending the computer through the mail for repairs?
-
There are solutions to everything, it just seems hp are trying to be slack on them.
obviously some service centres do not have all the parts and need to order them in, but i got several machines fixed within a week abroad.

What is covered by HP Global Warranty
HP Global Warranty covers HP products at the level of standard warranty offered in the country in which it is used. For example, a product purchased in country "A" and moved to country "B" receives the current warranty coverage provided by country "B" (if that product is marketed or supported in country B).
What is not covered by HP Global Warranty
HP Global Warranty does not offer an identical warranty everywhere in the world. HP Global Warranty does not change or affect HP Service Agreements, HP Service Contracts, support services bundled with HP hardware, or HP SupportPacks.
HP will not alter form, fit or function of the product to make it operate in a country for which it was never intended to function, for legal or regulatory reasons. -
Thanks, Siorah. However now I'm getting mixed messages. You say I can take it to a local service center and they will accept the standard warranty that came with the laptop. However their support line and Paul are both saying different.
Paul - can you verify or not that I can take it to a HP service center here in Brazil, and they will honor my U.S. warranty?
Thanks to you both. -
After some solid searching and verification, Brazil doesn't offer the same warranty as the US. Despite Siorah's excellent experiences, she bought her HP in the UK, which may have a different set of warranty guidelines. HP's official statement on International or "Global" Warranties and can be found here:

Please refer to the Global Warranty pages for further information.
Notes:
When moving products to countries outside of North America, European Union (EU) or EFTA, the Global Warranty Notification Process should be used to ensure warranty cover is provided.
Products excluded from Global Warranty cover are all HP Presario products, and all HP Prosignia products.
HP Armada portables are covered by the Global warranty, even if purchased before 2nd August 1999.
In some countries, warranty service delivery on some types of products may only be possible subject to an additional charge.
If your product is excluded from Global Warranty coverage, you can either:
Return the product to the country of purchase for warranty repair, or
Contact HP Service Store or a HP Service Provider to arrange a chargeable repair.
HP warranty - frequently asked questions
-Paul -
If the country (in this case Brazil) has same or similar product for sale, laptop should be able to be repaired as the service center has access to correct spare parts.
If the service center cannot order right parts, they obviously cannot repair the laptop.
Regular tech people at the service center cannot help much at that point but the supervisors who already have been contacted might.
And believe me, everyone there wants to repair your computer because that's where their paycheck comes from. Unrepaired system is zero income, only lost time.
And the disclaimer, those are my own thoughts that reflect how things work here. I'm not employed HP or any other brand -
indeed,
it seems the warranty system is slightly different here then. I will let pauls word be heard.
Does HP have international warrenty?
