I just called HP customer service and I was really pissed off. My friend's laptop purchased from China, in warranty, has issue on LCD screen, and I called them to see if I could get the laptop fixed in the United States. The lady and her manager both told me that they did not support the laptop service if the laptop was purchased from China, and they only support the laptop purchased in the United States. So, I am really wondering to know whats the point of " International warranty or Global warranty" service? IF the laptop can not be fixed in the United States, that means HP doesn't have any International warranty on the machine.
I was too tired to talk to the customer service on the phone, I had been on the line for 2+ hours, and they never explained what does International Warranty mean.
Does anyone here has experience to deal with this case? I hope I can really contact the HP customer service in the United State rather than route my call to India.

Depends which model you have. Do you have a consumer model? (Pavilion/Presario) Or business models? (HP Compaq/Elitebook/Probook) Business models does have international warranty. And if you do have a business model, you should also know that HP ITRC is one of the best ways of contacting support. It's 24/7 online method that works great. But if you have a consumer model, then you are stuck. Although I know that (because I live there, but is very different from buying electronics in China) in Hong Kong, some consumer notebooks do offer a 1yr international + 2 extra years of local limited support.

So it depends what you bought, and where exactly (big retailer? corner stores? :p) you bought it from.

my friend's laptop is Pavilion and she bought it from HP store in China.
darn... its first time i heard that international warranty did not cover internationally.
HP should make a clear statement on the warranty stuff coz I thought its kind of misleading ppl. I have my both DELL and Thinkpad fixed in China 2 months ago, and all I need to show is my passport to prove that I am living in the US.

You dell is a business model and so is your thinkpad. The US (or Indian) tech support could just be idiots who don't know you product is covered by an international warranty.

Which warranty exactly does your friend's laptop have?

we called HP China, and the tech told me the laptop had 2 years limited international warranty but the Indian tech and Indian manager didn't not want to give me any service and kept telling me they only support the laptop purchased in the United State. So, man, the customer service is really bad.

Tell them you bought it in the states just to get pass those idiots... :D Because if it was covered by a 2 yr international warranty, the Serial number and model number will show up in their system.

Here is what my understanding is: All HP Business models have international warranty. All HP consumer laptops have local warranty.

Dell Warranty can be transferred to another country where they have service as long as it is "At home". The basic "mail-in" warranty cannot be transferred.

I do not know where the exact policy is located on HPs site, if I can find it I will. The HP "International warranty" is applied to ALL consumer products, for their 1 year warranty, but there is a catch. The catch is, wherever you are in the world, your model laptop has to be offered in that market for them to be able to repair it. For example say you have a new dv4 that you got in the USA and you go to Japan. AFIK the dv4 has not been offered in that market. If you try to get your USA dv4 repaired in Japan, japan support will tell you to ship it to the USA at your own expense because they cannot repair it because they won't carry parts for that model since it was never sold there. Now say you got a dv6-xxxxAU (Australian) laptop. You travel to the states and your laptop brakes down. Since the DV6 is offered here you SHOULD (unless you have a different config with say a core 2 solo CPU or something similar which is not offered here) be covered by international warranty. Confusing as hell I know but from my experience thats the HP International Warranty for consumer laptops in a nutshell.
