    do the higher end HP Pavilion laptops use MXM for thier video cards?

    No not for the pavilions. Theres not even a slot. Its literrally stuck to the system board.

    Only the compaq nw/nx came with MXM slots.

    the hdx has mxm i looked up a dissembly guide on it and they have directions on removing the video board

    I believe these slots only support proprietary cards (the ones that are supported) and regular MXM cards don't seem to work for the majority. If there are further ventures into this, I'd be interested to hear more.

    I'm guessing it's just how HP has a whitelist for the WiFi cards, allowing only HP cards to be used.

    But the nw9440 card should work in place of the 9420 card, or at least that's my guess.
